The holidays are here and, with them, the same question as every year: what do we do now that school is out?
July and August can feel long, especially when families are looking for plans that truly keep children entertained, feel different and do not always depend on a screen. That is why summer workshops for children are an ideal option for families: they allow kids to learn through play, spark their curiosity and enjoy an experience they will remember long after the day is over.
At the Museum of Illusions Madrid, summer is all about visual games, interactive rooms and creative workshops designed for children to discover how perception works while having fun.
A family plan with air conditioning in the centre of Madrid
When temperatures rise, finding what to do in Madrid when it is hot with children can become a real challenge. You want to get out of the house, but you also want a plan that is comfortable, cool and entertaining.
The Museum of Illusions Madrid is the perfect alternative for those summer days when the streets are scorching: an indoor plan with air conditioning, right in the centre of Madrid, designed for the whole family to enjoy.
Its interactive rooms invite visitors to explore, play and take photos while reality seems to change at every step. The floor appears to tilt, spaces multiply endlessly and, in the famous Vortex Tunnel, your balance starts to wobble even though the floor is completely still.
Children move from one room to another full of laughter and questions. And adults, almost without realising it, end up playing just like them. Because the best family plans are the ones everyone enjoys, no matter their age.
Create, experiment and take home a special memory
Seeing an illusion is surprising. But taking part in a creative activity during the visit makes the experience even more special.
In the workshops at the Museum of Illusions Madrid, children do not just walk through the rooms: they also have the chance to create, try out artistic techniques and become the stars of their own summer plan.
Through activities such as sgraffito or watercolours, little ones work on their imagination, concentration and artistic expression in a relaxed and fun way.
They can also take their creation home with them: a handmade memory and a way to keep talking about the experience after the visit.
Beyond the final result, children take away the satisfaction of having created something of their own, a story to tell and the desire to keep discovering new things.
Free creative workshops during July and August
During July and August, we will be running different creative workshops for children, all free of charge and included with museum admission.
Dates, times and activities will be announced on our social media channels as they are confirmed, so we recommend keeping an eye out for upcoming proposals.
For now, these are some of the confirmed workshops:
- Sgraffito Workshop
- Date: Sunday, 6 July
- Time: 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
In this workshop, children will discover the sgraffito technique and create their own artistic piece.
Free activity included with museum admission. Recommended for children aged 6 and over.
- Watercolour Workshop
- Date: Sunday, 19 July
- Time: in the afternoon, exact time to be confirmed
A creative workshop to experiment with watercolours, colours and shapes in a fun and participatory way.
Free activity included with museum admission. Recommended for children aged 6 and over.
The Smurfs visit the Museum of Illusions
In addition to the creative workshops, from 20 to 24 July, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., The Smurfs will visit our museum with a special activity included with admission.
It will be the perfect opportunity to enjoy time as a family and for parents to share with their children characters that were part of their own childhood. The Smurfs bring back memories, games and moments that many families can now relive together, creating new experiences across generations.
This special activity is part of our summer programme, designed to learn, play, escape the heat and create family memories.
