You shift your position slightly and the drawing transforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mirages and moir\u00e9 effects <\/strong>have something in common: they turn a normal scene into a small doubt. They're not magic, but they feel like it. They are <strong>visual phenomena<\/strong> that teach us just how much <strong>light, patterns, and the position from which we look can change our experience of reality.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><h6><strong>Mirages and moir\u00e9 effect: what they are and why they surprise us<\/strong><\/h6><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>mirage occurs when light bends as it passes through layers of air at different temperatures. <\/strong>On a hot road, the air near the ground is warmer than the air above it. That difference curves the light's path and creates a reflection that the brain associates with water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That's why the asphalt seems wet, even though it's completely dry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The<strong> moir\u00e9 effect <\/strong>comes from another situation: the <strong>overlapping of patterns<\/strong>. When two similar meshes cross, like lines, grids, or circles, a new figure appears that wasn't in either of the two original drawings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes it looks like a wave. Other times, a shadow. Or even movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What's curious is that the effect can change as we move. One step to the right, a bit closer, a turn of the head, and the image seems to reorganize itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><h6><strong>The mirage isn't just in the desert<\/strong><\/h6><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>When we think of <strong>mirages<\/strong>, we usually imagine sand, heat, and a distant horizon. But they <strong>can also appear in much more everyday places.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In Madrid<\/strong>, for example, a very sunny avenue in August is enough for the ground to seem to shine in a strange way. You don't need to be in the middle of the desert. All <strong>it takes is a hot surface, air at different temperatures, and light traveling at the right angle.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There are also mirages at sea.<\/strong> Sometimes, ships appear to float above the horizon or look distorted. In cold areas, the opposite can happen than on asphalt: the air layers make distant objects seem elevated, stretched, or closer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For centuries, these images fueled legends about ghost cities, impossible islands, or ships suspended in the sky.
